Brady has testified and prepared extensive memoranda as an expert witness on arson and disinvestment in national class action suits against insurance companies. This includes expert witness testimony and written opinions on behalf of plaintiffs in class action suits against Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company and Prudential Property & Casualty Insurance Company and in local actions against insurance agencies. His role as an expert has focused on specific aspects of insurance underwriting practices which effectively deprive urban neighborhoods of insurance coverage at reasonable rates.
- Training and research: as a social scientist, he holds a doctorate in criminology from the University of California- Berkeley and has published extensively in both professional journals and popular media outlets on the inter-related subjects of arson, neighborhood deterioration, and redlining by banks and insurance companies;
- Police arson investigator: he served as Research Director of the Arson Strike Force in the Boston Police Department at the height of Boston's arson wave and is familiar with anti-arson methodologies adopted elsewhere (this was a central focus of the forthcoming documentary film, Burning Greed); and
- Training and practice as an attorney: he holds law degrees from Northeastern University and Harvard University and has been extensively involved in local and national litigation of insurance-related issues bearing on consumers.
